Documentary: Land Yetti
For this project we had to film, edit, and direct our own documentary. We started by studying camera angles that we could use in our documentary, these included; full body shot, medium full shot, close shot, close up, over the shoulder, cut away, and still shots. Then we learned about lighting and how it effects the mood or theme in film or photography, we looked at; hard light, soft light, transmitted light, and reflected light. We then watched the documentaries Exit through the Gift Shop and Blackfish in class to see how they are put together and what elements of a film we needed to included in our documentary. When filming I learned about how the placement of the camera and the picture that we are creating can be greatly effected by the simple placement of the subject. I found it fascinating that we have found math equations on pictures and we can use those mathematical algorithms to place the subject in a certain spot and have it appear more pleasing to the eye rather then if it were placed on a different spot in the photograph. I am talking about the diagonal rule, the golden section rule, and the rule of thirds. If I were to do this project again I would work on scripting, when I filmed my video I actually just made up what i was going to say on the spot. Even though it worked out aright I think it would have been better if I drafted a script before filming.
Independent Project: Make-up
This project was independent meaning we had to decide what kind of art project we wanted to do. I really wanted to do something different then everyone else was doing and gain skills that I could use in the future. Because of this I decided I wanted to learn about make-up. There are tons of tutorials and documents about make up because its such a big thing but the way I see it its also a form of art where your face is essentially the canvas. During this project I also improved my researching skills a lot when looking up tutorials and documents, I even interviewed someone. I'm really glad I did this project and improved my researching skills because I have found in my past the I was lacking in this particular skill but during this project I think I did some very effective research. I also am confident I used my time very wisely and managed my time effectively, I was constantly working and trying to learn as much as I could in the time I had and am very proud of what I accomplished. In my assessments its hard to see a whole lot changed but for me it was more just about learning about as much as I could and I did learn a lot.
Teacher Creature Project:
The teacher creature was a project was an assignment where we were asked to turn one of our teachers into a different thing in Photoshop, we also had to include a background, our name, and two other objects. The hardest part of the project for me was incorporating all of the requirements in a timely manner, I am very pleased with the final project however I did not have the kola the wrecking ball or the text on until the last day. I really like the fact that we were given all the tools to create a great quality project then were free to use our imagination and individual interpretation to create a quality project. I learned that its a good idea for me to try several times and experiment with an assignment and if I give my self the opportunity to start, experiment, and start over if I want to, I feel I learn and grow more when I am allowed to experiment it also make the project more enjoyable.
Landscape Project
At the beginning of this project Roxy took us out into the hall and had three gentlemen who were roughly the same size when they stood next to each other. Then she had each of them stand in the hall one at the end one in the middle and one fairly close to us. We then measured them using our fingers and the gentleman at the end if the hall appred much smaller. This was a representation on depth and how you can make thing that would normally be very large, making it small and placing it somewhere in the photo to make it look like the object is further away from the camera. A tool I discovered that I found very useful in creating the project would be the transform tool (Ctrl t). This allows you to change the size of an object and also its dimensions so you can place it in the background middle ground or foreground.
